Understanding growing dependence on it, Tiffany & Co. announced on April Fool's Day as a hoax for cryptocurrency, that it would sell a limited series of 499 pieces in 18-carat yellow gold, known by name of Tiffcoin.
As part of this launch, the firm paid tribute to Tiffany Money, which was silver and gold coins that can be exchanged for different jewelry. Each Tiffcoin is engraved and numbered with a T badge with graphics inspired by the room. This 18 -carat gold part measures 34.8 mm in diameter and 2.8 mm thick, presented in an exclusive Tiffcoin case in the emblematic Tiffany Blue Box.
Each room was sold for $ 9,999 and on the site indicated: "You cannot spend these Tiffcoins ... But why would you like it?" Although they are also for decoration, the principle of false cryptocurrency was a good marketing tactic and an excellent April Fool.
Tiffcoin was only available 24 hours on the brand's website.
